It's Up! And the picture we all chose looks like ass, so I have to change it. But please, please, please, read me, love me, and comfort me when I a) get no dates and b) lose my job. http://nerve.com/nerveblog/BlogALog.aspx?blogId=172Thank you so much to all of you for helping me muster the sack to do this. You're the best. Current Mood: indescribable | | Thursday, June 28th, 2007 | | 2:01 pm |
Farging Iceholes* http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/28/us/28cnd-scotus.html?_r=1&hp&oref=sloginBelieve me, as a white mother of white children who are massively inconvenienced by school district gerrymandering on racial lines, by no means did I regard this case as black and white, so to speak. HOWEVER, these assholes had the unmitigated gall to cite Brown vs. BOE as a precedent to RE-segregate school districts. Read Breyer's masterful (but obviously useless) dissent. They are speedily reversing every progressive decision the Supreme Court ever made. *Nothing like a "Johnny Dangerously" reference to lighten the load a bit ... CONGRATULATIONS STOCKDUDE!!!!! For those of you who don't know, stockdude got married Memorial Day weekend; I would have posted before he left but I wasn't sure when he'd be logging off to begin the festivities. So raise a glass for him and the little (literally, from what I gather) missus, ok?

Just Do It Gas is at $4.00 a gallon, while gas companies reap record profits. We Can Be Heroes Conversation with gay friend this a.m. ... GF: Those are skinny jeans; why don't you tuck them into your boots? CW: I know, but whenever I try that I feel like Catwoman, and not in the good way. GF: Honey, there IS no bad way to feel like Catwoman! (Still couldn't being myself to do it.) Mondays With Maggie No,not MY Maggie. Maggie Gyllenhal (sp?), who I just had coffee with* at Joe in the WV. She was with a guy whose face I couldn't see without contorting myself to the point of injury, but it made me cheery nonetheless.
Anyone know a not too pricey restaurant that serves good pecan pie?
* if "having coffee with" can be defined as my walking past her table, standing in line, buying coffee, then leaving without acknowledging her existence (or vice versa). | | Monday, February 26th, 2007 | | 8:48 am |
CW Reviews the Red Carpet Things that are true: 1. The people responsible for Jennifer Hudson's little space jacket and absolutely everything Anne Hathaway wore should be strung up. The Good Stuff Welcome to Lucy's Build-A-Bear Birthday Extravaganza! Who knew that, instead of building a BEAR, you could build a HELLO KITTY WEARING AN ARIEL-FROM-THE-LITTLE-MERMAID-OUTFIT?** But you CAN! ** comes complete with removable red wig, which is now in my purse. Who knows, I may need it. "Build-a-bear! Build-a-bear!" The Shop Around the Corner http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/03/books/03mica.html?ex=1168578000&en=acdb2c688becc27b&ei=5070SO fucking sad. I worked for Logan -- talk about a Fox, obviously -- for two years, including the summer I was pregnant with Maggie and so sick (he held my hair back when I threw up). I had to take a 20-minute test on authors of all genres, including historians, photographers, biographers (NOT biograPHIES, biograPHERS) to even be hired. He paid really well, let his writers, artists, and dissertators have time off to complete their own work, and hired them back no questions asked. We worshipped him. The sad thing that this journalist probably knew but was too tactful to mention directly is that Logan and Margaret (his partner) are both already quite wealthy from other sources. Micawber wasn't a job; it was a calling, a labor of love. You could go in there and give them a word of a title, a garbled synopsis, or the middle name of an author and they would find what you wanted. Maggie and Lucy have grown up talking to Bobbie in the children's section, blissfully free of intimidatingly large marketing campaigns that rule the kids' sections of the big-box stores. I'm sad. Labyrinth, who will take them over, is nowhere near as bad as B & N, but it will never be the same. Oh, and another thing ... 128 comments? BOO-YAH! I mean, I got that many because I'm a indecisive freak, but you guys rule. I love you. REALLY. Current Mood: melancholy | | Saturday, December 2nd, 2006 | | 4:57 pm |

Quote of the Day ... AND THIEVES!!!! ... comes from non-Communist Bill Clinton, as told to The New Yorker's David Remnick: "I don't care how drunk he was sometimes ... Yeltsin really hated Communism."** **On the current Republican leadership: "Nixon was a Communist compared to this crowd." In other news, I just discovered through a masturbatory autoGoogle that THESE fucks are selling my dissertation online! They must have bought it from Proquest and are now charging a nice 25% markup -- AND THIS IS ILLEGAL, SO I WON'T SEE ANY OF IT.
